1927- The Neil Simon Theatre (formerly known as the Alvin Theatre) opened in New York City, New York, on 250 W 52nd Street.  Several plays and musicals have been performed here such as Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” and “Annie” for as long as six years at a time.

1934- The world-wide renowed song “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” was first heard on Eddie Cantor’s comedy show.

1956- The sixteenth annual summer Olympic Games made its debut in Melbourne, Australia.
