There they are, gathered around the TV, laughing and intrigued in their favorite channel: Disney. It was only a handful of years back when these kids were enjoying this popular network.
Disney Channel has been completely altered from what it was when a majority of the students in high school were younger. Students used to always count on Disney Channel for a show to watch or just to get a good laugh.
Now, it seems as if not many students at LCN are as interested in the network as they used to be. Many have said it has dramatically changed.
Devin Green ’16 said, “All the old characters are gone, so it’s not as entertaining.”
The actors in the past, for example, Miley Cyrus, Raven Symone, Dylan and Cole Sprouse, are long gone and Disney is not the same.
Currently, some of the characters are the complete opposite as they were seen on Disney. For example, in “Hannah Montana,” Miley Cyrus used to be the sweet, innocent, and funny young girl that attracted people of many ages. Now, she is older and took the musical path in her career. Former Disney actors and actresses are absent from Disney and that seems to be the reason behind the lack of good shows now.
The majority of students have favorite shows from the old Disney; for instance, Troy Tanzy ’15 said, “’Hannah Montana’ is definitely my favorite show from back then because it was funny and it was realistic.”
Another popular show was “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”
Heather Samojedny ’14 said, “I used to always watch ‘Suite Life’ because at the time, I thought Zack and Cody were really cute. And I thought it was cool that they lived in a hotel. They always had fun.”
Tara Koth ’14 said, “I watched ‘Lizzie McGuire’ a lot, mostly when I was younger but I would for sure watch it now if it was on TV.”
Jesse Hermann ’16 said, “My favorite was ‘Suite Life of Zack and Cody’ because it was funnier than all the other shows.”
It seems as if everyone’s childhood memories of television revolved around the Disney Channel. But what about the new Disney compared to the old?
Nick Lojewski ’14 said, “‘That’s so Raven’ was probably the best show back then. But now there’s some show with a talking dog and they’re all lame and childish. If there were shows like they used to have, it would attract the old Disney viewers.”
That show, “The Dog of the Blog” is about a dog named Stan who writes a blog online; oh, and he talks, too. The shows now are considered less entertaining because they may come off on the ‘cheesy’ side.
Matthew Hawes ’14 said, “Nothing can be compared to the Disney we grew up watching. ‘A.N.T. Farm’ is just weird and isn’t as good as our old shows.”
“The new ones are pointless. They don’t teach lessons like the old ones do,” Hannah Seger ’14 said.
Former fans are disappointed with the Disney Channel now. It’s easy to say that students will not be caught watching this network anytime soon.
“Hi, my name’s Paige and you are not watching the Disney Channel.”
