As the holidays roll in, the cold weather follows. Most want to escape the cold, but some would just like to leave their hometown and escape reality. Vacations over the holidays are a must for some people, whether it is for visiting family, attending tournaments, or just for rest and relaxation.
Many families tend to take vacations over the holidays to visit their distant family members. This gives them the opportunity to reconnect while also getting away from their everyday life. It also adds an extra element of excitement by looking forward to not only the holidays, but also a family vacation simultaneously.
Senior Sydney Zablocki ‘15 travels down south to Florida to visit her family and also to compete in a soccer tournament.
“Right after Christmas, I am going to Florida with my family and my best friend, Jenna. I go there to visit my family and then play in my soccer tournament with my team,” Zablocki said.
Florida is a warm escape from cold Michigan winters but others travel to places just as cold as Michigan to see their families. Michael Ceccardi ’15 travels to Ohio to see his family.
“I go to my grandma’s house in Ohio. It’s tradition that all my family gets together, eats dinner, and exchanges presents. I look forward to it every year,” Ceccardi said.
Additionally, Madison Ianitelli ’18 is going to drive down to Florida with her family of four and her friend Olivia over Christmas break. They intend to soak up the sun and spend lots of time with her family and friends.
“I am going to Florida with my family and my friend Olivia. We go there to visit my grandma and enjoy the sun,” Ianitelli said.
There are a lot of places to vacation over the holiday which leaves endless possibilities for families to rest and relax. No matter where the destination is, the best part is being able to enjoy the holidays and have fun with family and friends.
