“Red Band Society” is a television series that focuses on a group of teenagers living together as patients in the pediatric ward of a hospital. This show gives its viewers a look into a sick teen’s life.

Twelve-year-old narrator Charlie is in a coma after a tragic car accident and introduces the viewers to the band of kids in this hospital, including the new kid Jordi Palacios (Nolan Sotillo). Jordi is a 16-year-old coming from California to seek treatment for cancer that was found in his leg. Jordi soon finds out that he has to get his leg amputated to treat this cancer. This opens the door for introducing the rest of the kids living in the hospital, including Leo Roth (Charlie Rowe), who has already been where Jordi is about to go.

This show is not all about cancer and there are many other characters including Kara (Zoe Levin), who is dealing with a heart problem and is at the hospital waiting on a heart transplant. She is known at her school as “the mean head cheerleader” and is on the bottom of the heart transplant list due to her addiction to drugs.

Another character is Dash (Astro), who is Leo’s best friend and is dealing with cystic fibrosis. Also living in the ward is Emma Chota (Ciara Bravo) who is Leo’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. She is in the pediatric ward dealing with an eating disorder and, with the help of Leo, she is making progress to getting out of the hospital.

The pediatric ward is run by a set of nurses and doctors, like any normal hospital, but drama begins to stir up as the season gets deeper.

These teens form a strong bond with each other represented by their red hospital bands hence the title of the show, “Red Band Society.” The cast of this show is surprisingly great because they are all young actors and actresses with a lot of talent. They get the viewers hooked.

The writing also has a good mix of highs and lows in the characters’ lives. There are rumors spreading about “Red Band Society” being cancelled but if this show continues with the great story lines of the characters, it will have great potential to go into a new season. With this being said I give “Red Band Society”four out of five stars.
